A controversial statement by the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has heated up the state’s political scene. He threatened to "drag and throw" TMC (Trinamool Congress) legislators, who won on the party's ticket, after they come to power. In response to this statement, the state Congress has filed a complaint against him at Kolkata Police’s Lalbazar headquarters. Congress leader Suman Rai Chowdhury emailed the Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police, calling the statement an insult to the Constitution and demanding appropriate action.
On Tuesday, while speaking to reporters outside the assembly, Suvendu Adhikari had said, "TMC wants to wipe out the Hindu community of Bengal. Any Muslim legislator who wins from their party, I will drag and throw them on the road 10 months after they come to power." His statement sparked strong reactions across the state. On Wednesday, a censure motion was brought against his statement in the assembly, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also indirectly targeting Adhikari.
Following this, state Congress Secretary Suman Rai Chowdhury, in his complaint, said that Suvendu Adhikari’s statement not only insults the fundamental principles of the Constitution but also creates a climate of fear among the minority community. Congress has demanded that the police file an FIR and take legal action against him.
Additionally, Congress leader Ali Imran Ramz (also known as Victor) filed an FIR against Suvendu Adhikari at the Chakulia Police Station in North Dinajpur. In response to Adhikari’s statement, TMC MLA Humayun Kabir expressed sharp criticism. He warned, "If Suvendu Adhikari does not withdraw his statement within 72 hours and apologize to Muslim legislators, he will be taught a lesson in the assembly. I will personally lead this with 42 Muslim legislators. Let’s see if he can match us with the central forces."
